AlternaTron

AlternaTron v0.9.8 is currently available

Overview

AlternaTron is an application that lets you control your AudioTron from your Mac or Windows machine, and gives you lots of flexibility to find tracks and manage your playlist.

Some of the features in AlternaTron include:

  • Client-side storage of your track information, allowing lightning-quick searches of your tracks to find exactly what you're looking for. Hierarchal lists of your tracks are organized by Artist, Title, and Genre information.
  • Control over your AudioTron functions, including Play, Pause, Stop, Next/Previous Track, Mute, Random, and Repeat, and also re-positioning within a playing song, and volume control.
  • Ability to build a playlist a track at a time, by album, artist, or whatever you choose.
  • Displays the cover art of the track that is playing (from your collection of cover art).
  • Create a Table of Contents file to speed startup of your AudioTron after a power-down, or export your track listings to a tab-delimited file for catalogging.
  • Ability to rate tracks, and mark problem tracks so you can find them later for re-encoding!
  • Lists your .m3u playlists, and easily send them to the AudioTron. Also, create and store your own playlists within AlternaTron.
  • Also keeps track of your TurtleRadio stations.
  • It's Free!

AlternaTron - AlternaTron is available for both MacOS 8/9 and Windows. A MacOS X version will be made available soon and will be fully backwards compatible.

AlternaTron Program Notes

  • If you're upgrading from a previous version of AlternaTron, simply copy your data files (the .4DD and .4DR files) into the newly installed folder and delete the old folder. (Upgrading to 0.95 requires you to re-synchronize your tracks in order to use the Album view)
  • If you had a cover art directory setup in previous versions, go into Setup and use "Import Cover Art" to bring all those files into the data file.
  • For best operation, you will need to have access to at least one of your music share directories from the computer running AlternaTron. Use this for defining the PlayList location. It is important to set this up, even if you're not planning on creating playlists, as AlternaTron uses a temporary playlist for many operations (this file will be called "alternatron_temp.m3u").
  • If you get a "Plugin Method cannot be executed" error, check to make sure you have the entire zip file decompressed. There should be a number of files, plus a 4DX directory in the same directory as the application (Mac4DX on the Mac side, Win4DX for Windows).
  • Any time you add new files to the AudioTron's recognized shares, you'll need to select "Synchronize" before they'll show up in AlternaTron's library.
  • Cover Art display requires QuickTime, which can be found at http://www.apple.com/quicktime.
  • Please send any feedback, requests, or bug reports to justins1@leavensfamily.com

This is the "Track View". It shows you all the tracks which are recognized by the AudioTron, and lets you add tracks to the playlist.

AlternaTron 0.95 adds a new "Power Search" function, that lets you search for text in the Title, Artist, or Album entries for each track. The searches are speedy and thorough!

Below is the new cover art maintenance window that helps you add cover art to your library. You can now retrieve cover art that has been stored in an ID3v2 tag.

Across is the Album list view. This is a great way to browse your music library, and it shows off all the great cover art for your music.
