EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
Deep Sky Technologies, Inc., Vero Beach, FL
January, 1997 - present
Deep Sky Technologies, Inc., (DSTi) is a consulting company founded and managed completely by Steven G. Willis. DSTi specializes in direct application development, tools development, online integration systems, network management, and hosting. DSTi provides end-to-end support for all online solutions for its clients.
America Online Productions South, Vero Beach, FL
October, 1995 - December, 1996
Responsibilities included programming in ACI 4th Dimension, with projects in online publishing, web publishing, software life-cycle tracking, business and project management, contact management, and publishing automation. Also built a large number of online areas in AOL's network (e.g. Pain Relief, Eddie Bauer, Hammacher Schlemmer, Warner Brothers, Reebok, Godiva Chocolatiers, Sharper Image, AAA, , etc.). Handled implementation and usage of quality control systems for software and site design and programming. Gained experience in online publishing techniques, both internal to AOL's network and on the web. Handled a large variety of designs and implementations of database systems for a wide range of applications.
Arkay Packaging Corporation, Hauppauge, NY
October, 1994 - October 1995
Responsibilities included programming in ACI 4th Dimension, with projects in payroll, human resources, and accounting, among others. Extensive work in converting older FORTRAN code from an HP/3000 platform to 4th Dimension. Experience in understanding the manufacturing process gained here, and handled analysis of work-in-progress data. Helped in the implementation of Arkay's goal of becoming ISO 900x certified. Designed the software quality model for the company. Programming at Arkay necessitated the programmer to handle the "full life cycle" of software development (writing specifications, programming, debugging, documenting, and training).
Wings for learning, Scotts Valley, CA
(a division of Sunburst Communications, Inc, Pleasantville, NY)
October, 1992 - January, 1994
Responsibilities included programming educational software for Macintosh personal computers, maintenance of in-house software, and maintenance of hardware systems. Programming concentrated on multimedia and database software packages, as well as diagnosis and recoding of software bugs. Most work done in MPW Pascal, MPW C, HyperTalk, and SuperTalk.
University of Southern California Computing Services, Los Angeles, CA
April, 1987 - August, 1989
Responsibilities included authoring communication and translation tools, creating routines for VAX 11/780 and 11/750, simplifying VM/VMS and BRSMNS interface EXECs for non-technical users, providing expansion of University hardware, and providing software interconnection of faculty and staff microcomputers with University mainframe database systems. Emphasis on restructuring BRSMNS interface for massive expansion of Hyperware interface configurations.
University of Southern California Library, Los Angeles, CA
January, 1987 - May, 1988
Responsibilities included design and coding of HyperText CAI software for use by all students in Freshman Writing Program (exhibited at EduCom, 1987). Additional design responsibilities in HyperCard resulted in the development of a simple, powerful, and flexible interface which became the University standard for computer-aided research. Also created authoring tools to allow data entry by non-technical users. Designed and implemented data translation and structuring routines for interface between the HyperText interface and the online BRS Library catalogues. Funding for these projects provided by Apple Computers.
University of Southern California Physics Research Laboratory, Los Angeles, CA
September, 1986 - September, 1987
Responsibilities included design of a software interface to allow non-technical researchers to plot and graphically display data sets of arbitrary ends. Additional responsibilities included hardware design and alpha testing of a high speed (Fast TTL logic) CAMAC timed digital multi-switcher with reprogrammable time and switching parameters for low-temperature research variants.
Familiar with most operating systems, with strong background in the Macintosh environment. Knowledgeable in most IBM and Macintosh software systems.
